The Marketing & Communications Specialist will work closely with the Director and Manager of Marketing & Communications to develop and implement strategies and tactics that advance the mission of the organization and raise the profile of ABTA, as well as its programs, initiatives and fundraising efforts, through both traditional and digital marketing and PR efforts. This position will work collaboratively with other departments to ensure overall strategy for communications is effectively achieved.
Position Duties and Responsibilities
Post approved content to social channels using Hootsuite and original platforms daily.
Obtain appropriate artwork to accompany content.
e-Communication and Website
Lead dissemination of the weekly staff email, including request for submissions, write & edit, e-newsletters, print magazines, e-blasts, social media content, websites and more.
Manual entry and formatting of monthly organizational newsletters and e-blasts into Convio; weekly report; submit for approval; then disseminate to ABTA staff.
Film and edit social media videos.
Load emails for distribution on Convio; work with Database Manager to secure email lists.
Maintain ABTA website, social and online support channels, including, but not limited to:
load PDF files and other approved content to correct sections of the site.
write & post approved news story with accompanying text.
monitor and post approved content to online community.
manage online Share Your Story submissions, follow up and posting.
Assist Director with developing and managing website redesign project.
PR and Media Relations
Monitor and issue daily news report to staff.
Monitor and track trending brain tumor news topics to support ongoing media analysis project.
Develop targeted media list in PR Newswire/Agility.
Enter calendar event listings into online media.
Develop ABTA news clip book with impressions.
Marketing and Communications
Assist with creating and implementing marketing communications strategies that foster strategic engagement of key constituents and ensure continuity of organizational messaging.
Execute ongoing competitive analysis, identify threats and opportunities and report out monthly.
Update and distribute marketing communications metrics tracking sheet and PowerPoint dashboard monthly.
Work with Director and Patient services team to update and print mission publications as needed.
Assist Director in supporting marketing efforts for mission programs, such as the patient meetings.
Assist with marketing communication needs for events team (BT5K, Breakthrough Your Way and Team Breakthrough).
Assist with Holiday Card program.
Assist with editing and proofing of marketing materials that support organizational programs, initiatives, priorities, and efforts.
Work cross-functionally with other departments and staff to develop positive and collaborative relationships.
General research on marketing, social media or intelligence gathering.
Other general administrative duties as assigned and support Marketing & Communications Director and Communications Manager as needed.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
2-3 years’ experience in marketing, communications and public relations preferred; non-profit; healthcare industry preferred.
Experience in top social media channels and management software (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Hootsuite).
Experience in media contact list targeting and list development using PRN Newswire/Agility.
Proficiency in Abode Creative Suite and video editing software preferred.
Convio or similar constituent engagement tools experience a plus; some HTML preferred.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with strong editing skills.
High level of organization and attention to detail, strong process orientation, demonstrated capability to interface and maintain effective relationships with all departments and employees in a team-oriented environment.
Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects with varying timelines and deadlines.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other supporters.
Knowledge of basic graphic design principals and AP Style.
Strong proficiency using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
The work environment may involve moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions (e.g., automobile and airplane travel). This position may require travel, up to approximately 10%. Additionally, while performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
The work requires some physical strain such as long periods of sitting and walking while handling company business. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 to 50 pounds, including boxes of ABTA literature. Specific vision abilities required by the job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
