The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) is seeking an experienced Director, Membership Development to oversee the creation and implementation of a comprehensive messaging and data strategy to recruit, engage and retain both individual and corporate members. The incumbent will work in close partnership with our network of Regions and Chapters, and will play a major role in the strategic oversight and management of the entire membership cycle including:
prospect identification and contact;
development of strategies to optimize retention;
identification and analysis of membership trends;
effective oversight and use of the AMS/database to manage member data and processes;
effective communication (and reinforcement) of the value proposition of membership; and
coordination and collaboration with DBIA Regions on all the above.
Specific duties include:
Develop a comprehensive understanding of DBIA’s mission, products, services and audience;
Develop and annually assess a comprehensive membership development plan including membership recruitment and retention, engagement strategies and member customer service;
Apply market research, best practices, and industry research to implement innovative recruitment/retention strategies targeted to each member category;
Assess and maintain data integrity to ensure accurate reporting of members and prospects at both the National and Region levels;
Develop policies and standard operating procedures to streamline new member onboarding and renewal processing;
Promote and enforce the highest member service standards possible in responding to inquiries, requests, and comments from members and prospective members;
Generate new leads through independent research, attendance at trade conferences, internal database, and other sources;
Work with staff to create and continually refine a value message for membership;
Recommend new programs, services, and benefits to meet member needs;
Serve as staff liaison to the Membership Committee;
Create, monitor and manage the membership department budget; and
Provide direct supervision to the Member Services & Engagement Manager, Region Relations Manager and Membership Coordinator.
10+ years of experience with a professional or trade association (or similar organization) developing and implementing membership recruitment and retention programs;
Demonstrated proficiency with membership databases and systems;
Strong technical skills/competency in e-communication tools and MS Office;
Demonstrated ability to gather, interpret, analyze, and report statistics; and
Demonstrated skills in leading and developing staff.

Excellent presentation skills, well-spoken and self-confident;
Strong interpersonal skills to build lasting member relationships;
Initiative, drive, and an entrepreneurial spirit;
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; and
Ability to manage and oversee multiple projects.
