Associate Director, Individual Giving The American Academy of Dermatology is seeking an Associate Director, Individual Giving (reporting to the Director of Development) to plan, implement and manage programs on a national scale for the purpose of soliciting individual prospects capable of giving $10,000 or more annually. Manage and provide leadership to Manager, Annual Giving. Manage, analyze, implement, and implement best practices to the Academy’s Annual and Individual Giving programs. Assist in the overall development and achievement of long and short-term goals and the mission of the Academy. Develop financial goals related to areas of responsibility, and develop and implement strategies to achieve goals. Responsibilities: - Develop a long-range plan to significantly increase the number and level of individual major gifts. Develop strategies to strengthen the Annual Giving program and develop and implement a major gifts program.
- Identify, in cooperation with the Director of Development, Development staff, senior staff and key volunteers, prospects capable of giving $10,000 or more annually. Employ a strategic relationship management process to move donors from identification through qualification and cultivation to solicitation. Work with the Annual Giving staff and/or external consultants to develop complete prospect profiles on prospects identified.
- Manage major gift prospects, including assignment of prospects to senior executives and volunteer leadership and the development of cultivation and solicitation strategies for those assignments. Monitor the progress and maintain a log of prospect assignments, actions and follow up. Manage the individual giving cultivation and solicitation activities of the Executive Director & CEO, the Deputy Executive Director and other staff and volunteer leaders as is appropriate.
- Accept personal responsibility for a portfolio of major gift prospects and develop cultivation and solicitation strategies for an appropriate number of prospects annually.
- Support members of the Board, Development Committee, and other volunteers involved in individual gift cultivation and solicitation.
- Work with Director, senior staff and others in the identification of funding opportunities and priorities of interest to donors. Assist the Director in developing a planned giving program.
- Using Raiser’s Edge, develop and manage a program for maintaining continuous contact with volunteers, donors and prospects to assure adequate communication, stewardship and cultivation to support individual gift solicitation. Ensure that all contacts, communication and visits with prospects are documented. Develop and manage a means of providing regular, comprehensive reports of the status of all assigned (to staff and volunteers) prospect cultivations and solicitations.
- Oversee development of Individual and Annual donor solicitation and recognition materials. Oversee scheduling for articles and recognition in Development and Academy publications and other mediums.

Requirements |

Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent experience required. A minimum of seven years of direct, successful fundraising experience with a national, individual giving program concentrated in the cultivation and personal solicitation of major outright or planned gifts and a record of progressively responsible assignments or positions. Successful experience dealing directly with donors and generating five-and six-figure gifts and willingness to travel. Demonstrated experience in Annual Giving and Major Giving. Experience with fundraising (database/constituent management) software such as Raiser Edge. Experience in an Association and/or medical related entity a plus. Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation a plus. Professional presence and the ability to present the mission to build donor relationships and trust. Knowledge of planned gifts, capital campaigns and endowments. Ability to interact with all levels of the organization including senior management, colleagues, volunteers, donors and prospects. Demonstrated excellence at supervising and motivating a professional staff. Demonstrate a persuasive writing style and polished verbal communication skills in different communication approaches. A working knowledge of the legal and tax implications of the various approaches and techniques used in giving. Demonstrate a high degree of integrity, responsibility, accountability and professionalism in a fast-paced environment and have independent judgment, strong organizational skills and flexibility as demands and priorities change. Possess strong time management, planning and budgeting skills. Demonstrate ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment with a dynamic range of people. Proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint required; Raiser’s Edge.
