The American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE), a leading voice on educator preparation, has an immediate opportunity for an experienced Director of Membership. AACTE represents approximately 800 postsecondary institutions with educator preparation programs dedicated to high-quality, evidence-based preparation that assures educators are ready to teach all learners.
Reporting to the Vice President, Membership, Events & Special Projects, this position is a member of the senior management team and is primarily responsible for AACTE’s recruitment, retention, and membership growth plans. Responsibilities include:
Developing and documenting an annual member recruitment and retention plan
Collaborating with Vice President, Membership, Events & Special Projects to identify recruitment and retention goals, as well as establish metrics for measuring success
Identifying opportunities and delivery channels for new member services to meet member needs
Evaluating member needs, their alignment with AACTE’s dues structure, and providing examples to enhance the overall membership value in cooperation with AACTE’s senior management team
Building buy-in and support for new membership initiatives across departments within AACTE
Participating in the planning of the annual budget; managing and implementing the approved budget for membership and taking appropriate action to correct variances
Developing key strategies to influence new members to join the organization; researching potential leads and initiating sales cycles to introduce AACTE membership value to key institutions and partners in the educator preparation field
Providing various reports to AACTE's senior team to include relevant statistics, recruitment updates, outreach plans, retention efforts, and other membership data
Representing AACTE and its membership value at internal events, applicable trade shows, state chapter meetings (as requested), and other regional or national partner conferences
Performing other duties and projects as assigned
Qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, business, management, or a related field and a minimum of five years’ experience in growing organizations, users, and customers. Experience within a nonprofit organization, and a Master’s Degree are preferred. The ideal candidate will be passionate about teacher education and customer relations, have a demonstrated track record of working with partners, customers, and in initiating successful sales cycles, and have excellent communication and business writing skills. This position will be required to travel up to 35% of the time.
