The Audio Engineering Society (AES) is recruiting a new Executive Director to be based at the AES headquarters in NYC, NY. The Executive Director provides the leadership, management and vision to ensure that the society builds revenues, controls budgets and contributes to a yearly surplus.
Reporting to the Board of Governors, the Executive Director is responsible for the organization’s consistent achievement of its mission and strategic objectives. Working in concert with the Board President and Executive Committee, s/he will move AES forward in the development and implementation of internal and external goals that reflect the organization’s vision, mission and business plan. The Executive Director represents AES externally, manages the membership, conventions, conferences, sales & marketing, and online education programs worldwide, and oversees publishing and standards development.
The Executive Director will be charged with the development, implementation and ongoing operation of a new, comprehensive strategy for member recruitment, and, most importantly, retention through innovative new programs. The Executive Director will be responsible for extending the awareness of AES’s annual conventions in the U.S. and Europe, the AES Journal and E-Library in order to reach a wider market, including new consumer-led areas of opportunity for audio such as VR and voice-controlled devices.
Candidate Specification: Key Selection Criteria
An ideally qualified candidate will have:
Five or more years of senior leadership experience in a membership related association environment.
P&L experience of seven figure budgets is a plus.
Leadership experience in the audio sector or related technology field is ideal.
Experience with web and mobile technologies; web content management; e-mail marketing systems; and other membership based communications technology.
Experience with association management software and related IT infrastructure.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
Ability to work effectively with staff, both individually and in a team environment, and with volunteers at all levels (leadership, members, committees, etc.).
The ability to travel freely to and from all international destinations is a requirement of the position. Regular travel (25%) will be required both within the U.S. and overseas.
Has an interest in audio - the mission of AES.
Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent professional experience.
