The Rail Passengers Association (formerly known as the National Association of Railroad Passengers) is looking for an energetic, entrepreneurial development professional with a proven track record to join our small DC team as Director of Resource Development.
The Rail Passengers Association seeks to expand its DC-based staff with a full-time professional to create, direct and execute a broad range of resource development and fundraising activities. This new role within the Association is externally focused, and demands initiative, creativity and a truly entrepreneurial mindset. You’ll be responsible for planning, designing, and executing integrated resource development strategies, especially those to expand funding and grant support from corporate, foundation, and major individual donors. The successful candidate will be expected to cultivate extensive personal contacts in pursuit of these objectives. Collaborating with fellow staff members to help increase membership, strengthening member retention, improve member benefits, and develop a strong prospect database using both traditional mailings and electronic and social media tools are also important.
This position will report to directly to the President/CEO and will also provide his/her accomplishments to the Board at every Board meeting.

Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated competence in:
Resource Development • Major Donor Campaigns • Foundation/grant proposal writing • Corporate Donor development • Sponsorship of Events • History of engaging a Board of Directors and senior staff in fundraising activities • Experience or background in member database development is also a plus
About You: • 5-8 years of documented successful professional fundraising experience, preferably with a non-profit membership-based organization • Excellent communication skills across all levels of management both inside and outside of the organization • Ability to be a team player • Ability to drive initiatives independently • Ability to identify and personally solicit potential major donors • Ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously • A strong desire to make a difference • Bachelor's degree is preferred
