The National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) has an opening for the position of Senior Event Manager, National College Fairs. The senior event manager reports to the director of National College Fairs and coordinates the planning and production of NACAC STEM College and Career Fairs. The senior event manager oversees various departmental initiatives, including the STEM College and Career initiatives, works with volunteer committees, industry and business partners, and other staff to ensure timely planning, promotion, and successful delivery of STEM programs and National College Fair and Performing and Visual Arts programs. Extensive travel is required.
NACAC is an education association of more than 15,000 postsecondary and secondary schools, organizations, counselors, and college admission and financial aid officers that work with students as they make the transition from high school to postsecondary education. Assists in the planning, directing, and coordination of the programming and marketing of National College Fairs by performing the following duties directly or in collaboration with other staff:
Travels to several fairs per year. Responsible for hands-on management of programs onsite.
Serves as lead staff member for STEM programing and planning. Prepares meeting materials and agendas for STEM Committee meetings.
Develops working relationships with local volunteers who help to plan, promote and execute the fairs.
Works with the National College Fairs Department and other NACAC departments to strategize, develop, and implement marketing plans that attract exhibitors, sponsors and partners for all STEM College and Career Fairs and other National College Fairs programs.
Builds strategic relationships with potential partners, exhibitors, and sponsors, and collaborates with the sponsorship team to secure new and sustainable funding opportunities for STEM College and Career fairs.
Identifies applicable networking and business development opportunities for STEM College and Career Fairs, National College Fairs (NCF), and Performing and Visual Arts (PVA). Represents National College Fairs at relevant conferences and activities to expand NACAC’s profile and visibility among potential partners and stakeholders.
Negotiates contracts with facilities, hotels, general service contractors, and other vendors in consultation with senior staff concerning terms and approval.
Collaborates with the Information Systems Department on the system needs to support the STEM program.
Assists in the development of the marketing and communication strategy for STEM fairs.
Collaborates with the Communications Department on electronic, video and print promotion (development, creation, proofing, and execution) for STEM.
Creates web pages and monitors web content for the STEM program.
Assists with STEM web content as needed.
Continuously monitors overall fair performance (exhibitor registrations, attendee registrations, and hotel block utilization) and recommends adjustments to promotions and plans as needed.
Assists in the development of promotional information for National College Fairs in the cross-promotion of STEM, Performing and Visual Arts, and National College Fairs.
Collaborates with the National College Fairs management team to develop and implement new strategic initiatives and programs that are consistent with the overall philosophy of NACAC and its National College Fair programs.
Ensures each fair remains within budget and proactively consults with senior staff where there are exceptions and/or extenuating circumstances.
Evaluates each fair’s performance, reports findings and makes recommendations for future years.
Assists with NCF and PVA events as needed.
Participates in professional development activities to stay abreast of industry trends in the field.
Fosters professional relationships with members/groups that use NACAC services and likeminded organizations.
Provide lunch time and back-up staffing for the front desk per scheduled rotation or as required.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum of three years of work experience in an event planning, marketing and/or educational environment and managing multiple programs, committees or events.

Proficiency in event and program planning skills.
Applied knowledge and experience exploring, identifying, and recommending successful strategies to elevate programs.
Strong interpersonal communication skills, including abilities to work well independently, within a team, and interacting with multiples audiences (meeting industry professionals, educational professionals, students, colleagues).
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including writing ability and telephone skills.

Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage and schedule multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven setting.

Ability to travel.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access).
