Serve as chief staff officer for 62-year-old national professional membership association of 700+ teachers, scholars, administrators and graduate students of theatre in universities and colleges. Budget of $300,000 plus reserve fund of $900,000. Seeking individual as an independent contractor, hiring subcontractors to complete staff responsibilities as needed, and providing a headquarters office. There is no stand-alone office.
Manage 17-member Executive Committee (Board), three standing committees, and 1 part-time independent contractor (web services manager). Includes planning and management of two yearly in-person meetings, conference calls as scheduled, and all hotel logistics related to these events. Provide staff assistance to committees as requested by committee chairs. Assist in all functions related to Executive Committee (Board), including, but not limited to: * Nominating Committee assistance;* Board development and training;* Strategic planning input; * Oversight of bylaws.
Oversee vendor relationships with university press that manages society's peer-reviewed journal. Responsible for all financial operations of the society, including management of the following functions: budgeting, tax filings, bookkeeping services and financial books, and oversight of investment portfolio.
Administer planning and production of annual conference in November with approximately 650 attendees, including oversight of proposal planning process, with 8-9 plenary sessions and 20+ working sessions and events over four days. Manage budget, hotel contracts and logistics and registration process.
Provide for and maintain a national office presence, telephone and 800-line services. Subcontract with outsourced contractors as needed to fulfill Scope of Work.
Key responsibilities: 1. Prepare, recommend and monitor the annual budget. 2. Oversee and administer all society programs and services. 3. Support the governance structure of the society through its Executive Committee; 4. Manage and supervise subcontractors according to policies and applicable laws. 5. Ensure compliance with all nonprofit legal and financial requirements.
Experience: minimally five (5) years' experience in association management with at least two (2) years in a senior level management position; and/or meeting management expertise with at least two years' experience in nonprofit settings.
Equivalent skills and experiences in an academic setting will be considered.
Staff management experience required. Budget management experience at $300,000 level and above.
Volunteer and board recruitment and management experience needed.
Experience working and managing the publishing of a professional, peer-reviewed journal preferred.
Graduate education in theatre, performance studies or related arts desirable.
Certified Association Executive (CAE) or Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) desired.
