Administrative, Clerical, Support, Research and Information
The National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) has an opening for the position of Research Associate. The research associate is responsible for gathering and analyzing information to support the association’s Public Policy and Research Department. The research associate will work with the director of research and other members of the educational content and policy team to produce data, analysis, and publications that inform the college admission counseling profession.
NACAC is an education association of more than 15,000 postsecondary and secondary schools, organizations, counselors, and college admission and financial aid officers that work with students as they make the transition from high school to postsecondary education. Collect and analyze data for the annual Admission and Counseling Trends surveys.
Draft research reports, issue briefs, and other publications using research from NACAC surveys and other sources.
Monitor and summarize research on college admission counseling in various media, including academic journals, association periodicals, annual reports and publications, and other sources; develop content based on research.
Analyze data from national data sources, such as the Common Data Set and IPEDS, and draft research reports for the association in conjunction with other public policy staff.
Assist the director of research on major research projects, including quantitative and qualitative studies.
Attend meetings and conferences of higher education/admission professionals where college admission counseling research is discussed.
Other duties as necessary or as assigned.
Prior experience in education research or other social science research.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to design, administer, and analyze survey research.
Strong writing skills.
Ability to process current research and summarize for a practitioner audience.
Basic proficiency with SPSS (or similar) statistical software, including exploratory and descriptive data analysis, variable recoding, and merging data sets.
Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.
Attention to detail.
Willingness to work without direct supervision.
