The Association of the Wall and Ceiling Industry (www.awci.org) is seeking a Director of Accounting Services to join our team. This position is responsible for managing finances for AWCI and its Foundation, as well as providing accounting support for two other industry organizations. The ideal applicant will have a proven track record of accurately managing and reporting on financial transactions, development of budgets and analyzing data. The Director of Accounting Services will play an essential role in maintaining AWCI’s strong financial position and achieving its strategic goals. Experience in a nonprofit (501(c)6 and 501(c)3) environment is preferred, as well as a strong focus on streamlining accounting processes. The position is a member of the senior staff and reports directly to the Executive Vice President & CEO.

Scope of Responsibilities
Responsible for all accounting and accounting-related personnel activities for the Association of the Wall and Ceiling Industry (AWCI) and the Foundation of the Wall and Ceiling Industry (FWCI). Provide specific accounting support for the Steel Framing Industry Association (SFIA) and EIFS Industry Members Association (EIMA). Overall responsibilities include:
Bank statement reconciliation
Audit, tax and legal compliance
Produce a monthly balance sheet, summary income statement, detailed income statement, accounts receivables statement, accounts payable statement, cash balances and investments statements.
Prepare a memorandum with each month’s statements describing any unanticipated conditions, changes in procedures or anomalies requiring further attention and produce a final report.
Prepare payroll entries, transmit to the payroll vendor and distribute payroll checks delivered from payroll vendor on a bimonthly basis.
Prepare all accounts payable checks weekly and submit to EVP & CEO.
Work with the Office Coordinator to make sure all cash and checks are deposited at least twice per week.
Reconcile monthly bank and investment statements for AWCI, FWCI, SFIA and EIMA.
Ensure that all federal, state and local income tax returns for AWCI, FWCI, SFIA and EIMA are filed by payroll processing vendor.
Manage the annual audit and work directly with the auditors to ensure timely and accurate completion of all audit schedules for AWCI, FWCI and EIMA.
Serve as liaison to auditors, bankers, insurers and other related vendors.
Work with the 401(k) plan administrator to ensure appropriate deposits in a timely basis to the staff’s 401(k) accounts, which are maintained by the 401(k) administrator.
Serve as a trustee for the 401(k) plan.
Assist the EVP & CEO in preparation of annual budgets for AWCI and FWCI.
Assist EVP & CEO with administration of employee benefits and other financial-related personnel resources matters.
Develop and maintain an office personnel system that tracks time reporting, personnel history, compensation and performance reviews.
Maintain an operation and procedures manual for all accounting, accounting-related and payroll-related functions.
Maintain a thorough advanced working knowledge of the Sage accounting software and any related accounting hardware and/or software.
Monitor and comply with all contracts and leases for office equipment and related services.
Attend AWCI conferences and industry events as directed by the EVP & CEO.
Serve as staff liaison to the AWCI Audit Committee and FWCI Board of Directors overseeing the audit and provide support to other committees as needed.
In the absence of the EVP & CEO, supervise the Office Coordinator, who provides assistance to the Director of Accounting Services.
Serve on the AWCI Senior Management Team and participate in weekly staff meetings.
Skill and Knowledge Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting from an accredited institution.
5-10 years of progressive accounting experience, nonprofit preferred.
Experience in financial reporting, budget development, payroll, coordinating audit activities, filing 990 and 990T tax returns and other reporting.
Excellent problem-solving skills; ability to effectively collect, analyze, organize, and present information to association leaders.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office especially Excel; knowledge of Access.
Strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with others, both internally and externally.
Ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines.
Ability to take the lead on projects and work independently, as well as collaboratively on a team.
