The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) is looking for an individual with at least two years of experience in evidence-based research or clinical practice statement development (such as clinical practice guidelines, consensus papers, white papers, etc.) to join our Guidelines team within our Quality Improvement Department. This project management-oriented individual will be responsible for facilitating and preparing presentations of systematic reviews for volunteer work groups, as well as critically evaluating published scientific literature. This individual will also serve as project manager for the Society’s guidelines panels and workgroups which includes developing agendas and minutes for meetings and conference calls and providing expertise and suggestions on activities of the committee.
Primary job responsibilities will include the following:
Coordinate volunteer recruitment and involvement with ASTRO projects; assemble COI disclosures of potential participants and provide as part of selection process.
Serve as staff liaison to guideline development panels.
Provide project management support to drive project to completion.
Plan and participate on regular conference calls with writing panel and committee members.
Clinical Practice Guideline Development
Participate in the selection of guideline topics by conducting environmental scans of existing guidelines.
Follow ASTRO’s guideline development process and guide panels to develop guidelines.
Prepare presentation of systematic reviews for panels to use when developing guidelines.
Perform copy-editing tasks on draft version of documents.
Work closely with other guideline team members to keep current in methodological developments of guidelines.
Oversees projects from original concept through final implementation. Responsible for all aspects of the project over the entire project timeline (initiate, plan, execute, control, close).
Ensures adherence to quality standards and reviews project deliverables.
Responsible for understanding individual responsibilities, identifying appropriate resources as needed, and developing a schedule to ensure timely completion of the project.
Identify and resolve challenges within the project team.
Provide program related content for website and publications to promote ASTRO branded products.
Develop project materials and presentations as requested.
Qualified candidates will have:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent training in research, health or social sciences, or related experience. A minimum of two years of prior experience in evidence-based research or scientific/medical writing is preferred.
Excellent analytic and writing skills; excellent project management skills.
Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skill; ability to interact effectively with management, staff, and volunteers.
Strong customer service skills and experience of working with volunteers.
Ability to complete multiple tasks independently and under tight timelines.
Knowledge of systematic review processes to perform data collection, and analysis.
Experience with literature searching methods and programs (e.g. MedLine, PubMed).
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Possess a strong team orientation and professional demeanor.
