Executive Director of a $1-2 Million, 1200+ member national association
Assure that the association has a long-range strategy which achieves its mission and moves towards consistent and timely progress through strategic planning with the Board of Directors.
Provide leadership in developing program, associational and financial plans (specifically identifying areas of growth and process improvements) with the Board of Directors and staff and carry out plans and policies authorized by the Board of Directors.
Schedule and maintain meetings and events. Work with leadership to develop and implement agenda for meetings.
Promote active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas of the association’s work.
Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the industry.
Management and maintenance of association’s IT resources.
Keep up to date By-laws and Policy Manuals.
Have and maintain a keen understanding of non-profit/association management & best practices. Accreditation through ASAE’s CAE program or membership/involvement through ASAE is a plus.
Ensure that the Board of Directors is fully informed on the condition of the association and all important factors influencing the association.
Implement Board policy and direct the staff to ensure all Board requests are fulfilled.
Publicize the activities of the association, its programs and goals.
Represent the programs and point of view of the association to agencies, associations, and the general public.
Oversee publication and distribution of the association publications.
Guide staff in the institution and maintenance of Social Media initiatives from a promotional perspective as well as a membership communication / benefit.
Membership Retention, Management and Growth:
Work with Staff and the Board of Directors to promote membership.
Develop and implement member benefits that attract and keep members.
Assist program staff in relating specialized work to the total program of the association with an emphasis on membership growth.
Plan, promote and conduct events including a national convention and regional conferences as necessary.
Interact with state and regional associations to promote consensus across the industry.
Responsible for recruitment, employment, and release of all personnel, both paid staff and volunteers.
Develop and maintain job descriptions.
Perform regular performance evaluations.
Maintain sound human resource practices.
Encourage staff and volunteer development and education.
Maintain a climate which attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse staff of top-quality people
Budget and Finance:
Develop and maintain sound financial practices.
Work with Staff, the Finance Committee, and Board of Directors in preparing a budget; see that the association operates within budget guidelines.
Ensure that adequate funds are available to permit the association to carry out its work.
Jointly, with the President and Secretary of the Board of Directors, conduct official correspondence of the association, and jointly, with designated officers, execute legal documents.
