The American Floral Endowment (AFE), a small but very dynamic nonprofit charitable association, is seeking a Communications Specialist/Writer to join our team.
Write and develop crisp, clean, and modern copy, messaging, and digital advertising that compels action and reaches target audiences quickly and effectively.
Develop content/story ideas for news articles, print and e-newsletters, press releases, annual report, fundraising solicitations, and other communications.
Conduct interviews of scholarship and funding recipients for regular features in AFE newsletters.
Prepare and upload content to association websites, managing SEO, keywords and maintenance of sites.
Write event scripts, and create attractive PowerPoints, graphics and other presentations as needed.
Ensure all content is consistent and on-brand across assigned communication channels.
Prepare annual webinar schedule and oversee promotion and implementation of webinars.
Support the company's overall social media strategy and develop content for all social media platforms.
Develop and maintain press list and serve as contact for all press related inquiries. Build relationship and secure placement of AFE news in outside publications.
Work with outside graphic designers and other vendors as required.
Travel (2-4 times per year) to AFE Meetings or Industry Events/Trade Shows to represent the association.
Must-Have Skills and Abilities:
Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Media, or other related field.
2-3 years professional writing and editing experience -Nonprofit experience highly desired.
Exceptional communication (verbal & writing) skills, solid grasp of grammar with an ability to collaborate effectively.
Solid organizational skills and ability to manage projects against tight deadlines.
Excellent time management skills; be able to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment; and, transition easily between projects.
Possess excellent storytelling, writing and proofreading skills with the ability to effectively work with multiple reviewers. Ability to translate technical into meaningful and easy to understand copy.
Sound judgement, critical thinking, creativity and resourcefulness.
Familiarity with Associated Press style.

Intermediate/Expert computer (Mac Preferred) Microsoft Office 365, and Drobox experience.
Knowledge of MailChimp or other electronic marketing platform required.
Experienced with WordPress
Experienced with InDesign, Adobe, and Video creation/editing software is a plus.
