POSITION OBJECTIVE: The Vice President, Public Affairs serves as a member of the AFBF Leadership Team and leads all AFBF Public Affairs activities and initiatives in accordance with the policies established by the voting delegates and guided by the Board of Directors.

LOCATION: Washington, DC
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a member of the AFBF Leadership Team, participate in key decisions and contribute to the development of the organization’s strategic plans, tactical initiatives, and performance measures.
Lead, mentor and develop the Public Affairs Department staff using a supportive and collaborative approach.
Develop and implement an integrated strategic public affairs plan to enhance member value and advance AFBF’s mission.
Maintain relationships with state Farm Bureaus and assist state Farm Bureaus in developing and implementing an effective public policy program.
Cultivate and enhance constructive relationships with targeted, key individuals in the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government to assist in implementing Farm Bureau policies.
Supervise the preparation and presentation of statements to congressional committees and regulatory agencies designed to implement Farm Bureau policy.
Manage administrative functions of the Public Affairs Department, such as budgeting, expenses and staffing.
Maintain effective relationships with AFBF leadership and employees; state Farm Bureau leaders and staff; affiliate companies and other organizations as appropriate. Manage relationships with appropriate vendors and consultants.
EDUCATION OR TRAINING REQUIRED:
Bachelor degree or higher
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Minimum 15 years of relevant experience, including strategic planning, budgeting, public affairs/policy
Proven management experience leading an internal team and external resources
Strong operational understanding of executive and legislative branches of the federal government
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with senior management teams and across functional areas to accomplish objectives
Experience with agriculture policy issues
Experience within trade associations
Experience within Congress and/or Executive Branch
