Join the Ohio REALTORS® team and come to work at the largest professional trade association in Ohio! Ohio REALTORS®, a Columbus based professional trade organization representing more than 33,000 members, is seeking a Director of Local Government Affairs to be responsible for planning and implementing Association strategy on legislative, regulatory, political, and legal issues within the local environment.
We are looking for a persuasive, confident, outgoing individual to travel throughout Ohio, supporting our members and building coalition. Strong Self-Management, Personal Accountability and Presentation skills are a must. The individual we select will be a team player with a strong balance between confidence and humility. If you have a strong drive to do what is right, with an appreciation for the history of our Association, this position could be for you. The ideal candidate shall have a proven track record of delivering quantifiable results to the organization through consensus and relationship building with internal and external stakeholders, members, and local/state/national REALTOR® Associations.
• Act as the liaison between the Ohio REALTORS® and the local associations. • Plan and implement an Association strategy on legislative, regulatory, political, and legal issues within the local environment, including when and how to lobby legislative and regulatory bodies in their respective districts. • Attend key local political committee meetings on a regular basis and participate in key local political events. • Perform speaking engagements at general membership meetings of local boards/associations regarding issues of importance at the state and local level. • Maintain solid relationships with local elected officials. • Coordinate legislative meetings between local elected officials and REALTORS®. • Research local ordinances and issues as requested. Prepare analyses of the issues and create corresponding strategies. • Provide oversight to vendors on local issue campaigns to accurately represent Ohio REALTORS®. • Develop communication strategy to promote local activities and success across all program areas. • Represents the Ohio REALTORS® at NAR’s meetings as directed. • Working collaboratively with existing Ohio REALTOR® teams. • Work to support and broaden current Local Government Affairs program. • Performs other duties as assigned by the CEO.
Knowledge and skills required:
• Planning and executing initiatives. • Transparent, inclusive, and strategic interpersonal communication skills. • Ability to work with a variety of people and personalities. • Ability to collaborate effectively by maximizing the talent and involvement of others, while guiding the primary goals of the Association’s Governmental Affairs Division. • Knowledge of key public policy positions of the REALTOR® organization.
We are looking for an individual with 5+ years of experience working with Local Government, grassroot organizations, and membership advocacy. A proven track record of initiating change at a local level is required.
Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience. A strong working knowledge of Local and State Government is required. Salary and Benefits:
Salary range $75,000-$85,000 yearly depending on experience. Compensation package includes a 401(k) with match and Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance and 37.5 hours per week with flex start and end times.
