The Organization

The American Student Dental Association (ASDA) was founded in 1971 and is the largest dental student organization in the United States. With a membership of more than 23,000, ASDA represents 88% of dental students from all 66 dental schools.  ASDA’s mission is to protect and advance the rights, interests and welfare of dental students.  The association introduces students to lifelong involvement in organized dentistry and provides services, information, education, representation and advocacy.  ASDA representatives vote in the ADA House of Delegates, sit on most ADA councils and commissions and comprise one of the most respected student organizations in the nation. 

ASDA is located off Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago, with a staff of 10 and an operating budget of $4.5 million.

Position Overview

The Chapter Relations Manager is a new position.  The position is responsible for the development, training, and management of ASDA’s predoctoral chapters (66) and chapter leaders. Implements new chapter program. Supports the development of ASDA’s chapters and chapter leaders. Oversees annual chapter recognition program (Gold Crown). Supports predental membership. Produces and edits two enewsletters. Serves as co-staff liaison to the Council on Membership.

Position Responsibilities:

Predoctoral Chapters:

• Manages and develops chapter resources including, but not limited to, chapter leadership position descriptions, chapter training, chapter operations guides, and chapter leader onboarding.
• Facilitates networking and idea sharing among chapter leaders.
• Monitors chapter operations, governance, and activities. Ensures compliance with national ASDA. Establishes key measurements to track chapter performance and measure progress.
• Oversees Gold Crown Awards program including application, selection, recognition and review.
• Produces and edits the chapter leader enewsletter, New Leader.
• Provides regular feedback to Membership Director on the state of ASDA’s chapters.
• Conducts the annual Chapter Membership Drive with support from the Membership Coordinator.
• With support from Membership Coordinator, ensures ASDA has current information including, but not limited to: chapter bylaws, chapter leadership contacts, chapter membership information, chapter advisor contacts.
• Works with Director of Membership to welcome new dental programs and establish new ASDA chapters.

Predental Members:

• Produces and edits enewsletter, Polished Predental.
• Manages predental budget.
• Works with predoctoral chapters and districts to conduct predental membership recruitment.

Other Duties:

• Serves as co-staff liaison to the Council on Membership. Attends meetings, conference calls, takes minutes. Supports Director of Membership as needed.
• Works with Marketing Team on ASDA’s membership recruitment and renewal messaging.
• Provides content in the following areas of the website: chapter management, Gold Crown, Membership Outreach Grant, and chapter training.
• Maintains Membership Department procedures for chapters, chapter management, predental chapters. Creates new procedures as needed.
• Serves as backup for membership processing and member inquires by email and phone.
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Membership.
