American Short Lines and Regional Railroad Association-Staff Accountant
The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association is seeking to add a Staff Accountant to join our team. This is an opportunity to help support one of our country’s most important critical infrastructures through providing excellent customer service and timely financial reporting. Our members currently operate about 50,000 miles of track and serve a broad mix of industries and nearly 10,000 customers. You’ll be supporting the fight against climate change; our members move one ton of freight over 470 miles with only one gallon of fuel!
General Responsibilities Include:
You will have the opportunity to develop your Excel skills, data organization skills and enhance your knowledge of the inner workings of an accounting department.
You will work closely with the Accounting Manager and VP of Finance to provide them with information needed for everyday business operations, quarterly and yearly requirements.
You will be the primary contact for all payables functions for the Association and you will need to proactively seek additional information for the correct processing of the payables.
You will assist in the bank reconciliation process for multiple accounts, general account reconciliation, prepare schedules for month-end close, 1099 preparation, and other month end and year end tasks.
Your curiosity will play a fundamental role in this role by continuing to cultivate new ways to improve processes, policies, and procedures.
From time to time, you will be asked to interact directly with our members at our various events, through email and via phone.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Overall Requirements:
2+ years of accounting experience is required and a bachelor’s degree in accounting is highly preferred. Progress towards CPA license is preferred.
Strong Excel skills are preferred including VLookUps and Pivot Tables are helpful skills to have.
Experience with a large general ledger package is preferred. Intacct is preferred but other software packages will be considered.
Patience and attention to detail are critical personality traits for this role. This role serves as a base for smooth operations in the department.
You will be working primarily in a remote capacity but will be expected from time to time to come to the office in Washington DC and attend member events held around the US.
Salary for this role is estimated to be 65K-70K with a competitive benefits package offered.
