The Editorial Coordinator is responsible for various aspects of the ASH Clinical News production process, from writing and editing to factchecking and layout review. The Editorial Coordinator is also responsible for day-to-day management of the magazine’s social media accounts and assisting with other projects and administrative tasks as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Duties that occupy a major portion of time and importance in the job)
Copyedits news coverage of clinical studies for the Written in Blood, Blood Advances in a Different Vein, and Literature Scan editorial sections, and other sections as necessary
Solicits/compiles article ideas and writes content for the ASH Directions editorial section
Coordinates You Make the Call clinical dilemma and YMTC-Readers’ Response editorial sections, including corresponding with experts and readers, and managing prize program
Assists the Managing Editor with review of print layouts
Is responsible for the management of ASH Clinical News’ social media channels, including posting content daily, encouraging audience engagement, and analyzing usage statistics
Monitors ASH Clinical News website regularly for appearance, functionality, and thoroughness/timeliness of posted content
Maintains editorial archives database
Responsible for initial review of email newsletters drafted by publishing partner
Regularly provides publishing partner with updated mailing and email lists, monitors lists for accuracy, and maintains print subscriber requests
Coordinates quarterly honorarium payments to editorial board
Provides administrative support to the editorial board as necessary
Conducts occasional research for feature and other articles
Assists graphic designer with gathering headshots and various photos for each issue
Assists in planning and organizing meetings and conference calls with publishing partner and editorial board
Prepares agendas, attends editorial meetings, and takes minutes as necessary
Assists with other projects as assigned
College degree and a minimum of two years of related work experience.
Exemplary writing and editing skills required, preferably in field of science or medicine.
Experience maintaining a social media presence, ideally professional.
Requires outstanding attention to detail, excellent time management skills, and ability to multi-task effectively.
Strong interpersonal skills, including professionalism and ability to work well with the ASH leadership required.
High level of motivation and ability to work independently.
Requires ability to speak audibly and listen actively.
Requires ability to use computers, telephones, and other office equipment.
May require ability to sit for extended periods of time.
