Under the direction of the Chief Membership & Diversity Programs Officer, the Associate Director, Membership is responsible for creating and operationalizing the Society’s membership experience and retention strategies. The Associate Director, Membership will be a key partner and collaborator to the Associate Director, Member Engagement to align and execute strategies. In addition, the incumbent will collaborate with colleagues across the Society to support member needs, partnering closely with other departments to articulate and deliver on our value proposition. This includes:
Acting as the primary advocate for members and member benefits, products, and services across the Society
Articulating the member value proposition and create membership materials that communicate the value proposition
Partner with the Chief of Membership and Diversity programs develop wide benchmarks for recruitment and retention, and the strategy for achieving them
Developing and executing member and customer surveys and other outreach to determine program and service needs.
Engaging in ongoing outreach to establish and maintain a strong relationship with our members
Identifying, tracking, and reporting key member satisfaction and demographic metrics regularly
Providing regular status updates on membership statistics, trends, and satisfaction to the staff Leadership Team
What you’ll bring to the job:
BA/BS degree required; marketing and/or communications is highly desirable.
Minimum of seven years of membership development and engagement experience, preferably with a global scientific or medical society.
A results-based track record of implementing successful membership growth and retention strategies.
Prior experience with NetForum or other Association Management System (AMS) is highly desired. Intermediate experience with Microsoft Excel is required.
Track record of taking initiative in managing competing organizational and departmental priorities and to work effectively under pressure when facing deadlines.
Strong organizational skills and demonstrated capacity to develop and implement practical strategies, plans, and solutions to identified issues and problems.
Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to high level of customer service.
Proven oral and written communication skills.
Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate and thrives to be a leader on cross-functional teams.

What you’ll own:
Apply market intelligence, best practices, and industry research to develop and implement innovative retention strategies to meet budgeted goals.
Identify and implement membership acquisition strategies for non-traditional markets for growth.
Create and implement a process to monitor success metrics for recruitment efforts, retention strategies and member acquisition/retention costs.
Contribute key insight and knowledge to the Society’s competitive/business intelligence efforts to make data-driven decisions that benefit our members and the profession.
Develop and implement an evaluation process to ensure that member benefits and services are relevant and valued by our members.
Collaborate with communications and media relations team to create membership materials, develop integrated campaigns and to use social media to retention/recruitment efforts and to deliver value to members and customers.
Manage all market research activities related to membership including conducting member/customer satisfaction surveys.
Lead all activities related to annual meeting membership booth including promotion, staffing, material, shipment, and training of staff.
Partner with Associate Director, Member Engagement to develop cross-departmental strategy for presence at external meetings.
Hires, supervises and coaches member services team. Fosters an environment of collaboration within the team and across the organization to achieve a high level of staff performance. Carefully monitors workflow and adjusts as necessary to minimize backlogs.
Formulates best practice policies for customer service and data entry management. Works with appropriate staff to ensure collected data is organized in the most appropriate manner for its use in other applications, such as list selections. Routinely tests and audits accuracy of data.
Manage successful execution of membership development projects including ongoing enhancement of all membership communications, materials and web presence.
Oversees the help desk and customer service component for virtual meeting.
Assist member services staff in troubleshooting customer service issues to ensure effective and long-term problem resolution.
Partner with the Chief Membership & Diversity Programs Officer to manage annual department budget.
