Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI)
Location: Washington DC

Associate Director, Content and Creative
As a senior member of the communications team, you will report to the director of communications, be supported by a team of 6, and lead all content and creative work across the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). In this role, you will work with subject matter experts across PCORI and leverage synergies to enhance content and creative communications efforts.
PCORI funds research that offers patients and caregivers the information they need to make important healthcare decisions. Patients, their families, and clinicians face a wide range of complex and often confusing choices when it comes to addressing health and healthcare concerns. They need trustworthy information to decide which option is best for them. As Associate Director, Content and Creative, you will oversee content development efforts, including planning, creating, editing, reviewing, and updating technical and nontechnical editorial and creative material to be used across all communications channels to support the organization’s strategic goals. You will manage an in-house team of writers, editors, designers, and an executive speechwriter—along with freelancers and consultants as needed—to ensure timely, consistent delivery of content within budget and style guidelines.
In this role, you will think strategically about how to best engage each target audience and how that audience prefers to consume their information. You will be our primary brand steward, managing brand guidelines, tone, voice, and organization style guide. You will also lead the writing, designing, and production of PCORI’s Annual Report, an activity mandated by Congress.
We are an independent, nonprofit organization authorized by Congress to fund comparative clinical effectiveness research (CER) which compares two or more available healthcare options to determine what works best for which patients and under what circumstances. We fund research and analyses to generate high-quality, reliable, and meaningful information to enable better-informed health and healthcare decisions by patients, their caregivers, and other stakeholders in transforming our health systems. We achieve this by supporting patient-centered outcomes research, which is CER that focuses not only on traditional clinical outcomes but also on the needs, preferences, and outcomes most important to patients and those who care for them. In addition, we seek to improve healthcare delivery and patient outcomes by producing and promoting evidence-based information through research that is guided by patients, caregivers, and the broader healthcare community.
