The American Seed Trade Association, (ASTA) currently offers professional development, continuing education, and training to both members and non-members, and is looking to increase our in person and online learning opportunities. Our goal is to apply innovative thinking about who we’re serving, and how we’re serving them. We are looking to evaluate the forces that are affecting our industry in order to position ourselves to look beyond immediate programming, and plan strategically for the years ahead.
ASTA is looking for a Learning and Development Consultant to help steer the association’s direction in implementing new training initiatives and career development for its members, as well as implementing interest and opportunities at ASTA meetings.
This consultant will help us identify: • The type of education that will be offered - conferences and seminars, blended learning, webinars, online courses, offline materials, or a mixture of all of these • Speakers, trainers or professional organizations that are uniquely positioned to deliver the training • Technology requirements to best deliver the program to our members • Ways that ASTA can make it easier for our members to access the content. Reports and information needed to evaluate the success of our programs • Opportunities to increase member engagement and meeting participation through our programs Typical duties include: • Serve as an advisor for ASTA staff leadership, planning committee members and board of directors on meeting content and continuing education opportunities for ASTA members and non-members. • Work with the meetings planning committees in developing an effective meeting structure and programs. • Utilize educational resources to reach strategic goal of increasing member engagement. • Design programs to be completed by people that are working full time and have significant responsibilities. • Assess current educational programs and meeting structure. • Help implement changes to meetings. • Survey members and ASTA leadership to understand the needs and wants in continuing education and development. • Report on the effectiveness of current programs. • Devise strategies to improve educational quality and help implement new programs. • Design new training programs and offer staff training workshops. • Recommend different development materials. • Implement and guide usage of current and new resources. • Develop a procedure in tracking and improving participation rate. • Match members to appropriate learning environments, such as online development or meeting attendance. • Meet with ASTA leadership and staff to discuss programs and budgets.
