Job Summary
The Director of Marketing & Communications (DMC) will provide intellectual and managerial leadership in various aspects of marketing and communications. A high priority will be placed on the development, refinement and enhancement of a communication strategy consistent with the strategic plan of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology and Foundation for Women’s Cancer to reach core audiences, including but not limited to members, the media, funders, policymakers, advocacy organizations, patients, caregivers, survivors and the public, utilizing all available communications channels.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Marketing and Communications
- Spearhead marketing and communications campaigns and projects across different media.
- Offer strategic marketing and communications counsel to Society leadership and senior staff as needed. Oversee crisis communications efforts.
- Serve as staff lead to the Communications Committee, utilizing the volunteer leaders’ clinical expertise to ensure Society's communications are valid from a medical perspective and correctly represent the collective clinical consensus of the Society.
- Overall responsibility for messaging bound for public audiences. Manage the development of Society’s response to late-breaking events.
- Provide expert oversight of the design of and content on the Society's website and social media outlets.
- Ensure all materials produced by the Society and Foundation adhere to brand/identity standards and meet/support overall organizational positioning and communications messaging. Work with legal to maintain all brand registrations.
- Recommend and oversee integrated marketing and communications programs/plans to enhance public awareness and foster positive image of the Society, the Foundation, and the profession of gynecologic oncology to key audiences, utilizing a variety of media to ensure appropriate coverage and reach, including, but not limited to print, electronic and social media outlets.
- Serve as the senior editor and/or contributing author of materials produced by the department or external vendors, including, but not limited to SGO Issues, Presidential Matters, and Women’s Cancer News.
- Direct media relations activities and serve as the Society spokesperson on non-clinical matters as needed.
Membership, Marketing and Communications
- Prepare and adhere to the Marketing and Communications budgets.
- Serve as a mentor to department staff.
- Other projects and initiatives/duties as assigned.
Physical Demands
Nature of work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment. Requires ability to communicate verbally and in writing in an exchange of information; collect, compile and prepare work documents; set-up and maintain work files. Occasional day and overnight travel by air and/or automobile may be required. Use of the computer, with repetitive motion, is approximately 80%.
Working Conditions
Majority of work is performed in a general office environment. All positions are currently performed remotely.
Salary and Benefits
This is a full-time position (37.5 hours/week) located at SGO’s headquarters in Chicago, IL. Salary is commensurate with experience. SGO offers a comprehensive and generous benefits package including PTO, health insurance, and a 401(k) retirement plan to its full-time employees.
