WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR SIAM seeks a motivated Membership Manager to lead and execute SIAM’s membership program. Reporting to the Director of Programs and Services, this position is responsible for recruitment and retention of individual and corporate members, management of SIAM’s Activity Groups, Sections, and Student Chapters, and working closely with SIAM’s volunteer leadership. The Membership Manager oversees a team of three staff (Membership Coordinator, Student Chapter Coordinator and Membership Recruitment Coordinator).
We are looking for an individual adept at working with and presenting data who enjoys working in a supportive team environment, who is excellent at managing complex tasks distributed among a team of professionals, and who has a demonstrated proficiency in the planning and execution of strategies to grow membership. Experience with scientific associations is strongly preferred.
The Membership Manager also supports strategic initiatives for the retention of members and recruitment of new members, particularly those in areas targeted by SIAM as growth opportunities, such as mathematicians in industry and outside of the U.S. and Canada.
In this role you will:
Develop and drive the creation and implementation of an integrated, multi-segment membership recruitment and retention strategy, along with plans and tactics, that measurably increase overall membership
Plan and oversee the strategic direction of the organization’s membership nationally and globally
Carry out analysis, interpretation and reporting of individual and corporate membership surveys, trends, membership campaigns, program metrics and performance including SIAM Engage, the online membership community
>Develop data-driven new member acquisition approaches; utilize data to design and implement compelling, engaging program strategies that highlight value proposition for new and existing members
Address the needs of member segments -- student, international, early career, and members from labs and industry. Analyze trends and make recommendations for optimizing SIAM memberships amongst segments.
>Create and manage the budget for all membership department promotional and administrative expenses. Measure results of all efforts in appropriate ways for cost-effectiveness and for support of SIAM’s strategic goals.
Oversee membership strategy to foster and increase member engagement including potential partnerships with other societies and recruitment of SIAM reciprocal societies >Work collaboratively with the marketing team in the development of individual and corporate member-centric outreach and collateral material to effectively communicate the value of SIAM membership
Promote formation of new sections and student chapters, in cooperation with the appropriate volunteers; provides support to the volunteers as needed; creates procedures to foster the growth and activities of existing sections and student chapters.
Guide initiatives directed at engaging and recruiting individual members from non-academic settings and corporate entities.
Travel to SIAM and non-SIAM conferences as needed for individual and corporate membership recruitment, as a representative of SIAM, and for research purposes.

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree
Minimum of 5 years of management experience
Minimum of 5 years of association membership experience preferred
CAE and ASAE certifications preferred
Ideal Skills and Competencies
Strong technology skills, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft and Google applications (especially Excel), association management software such as Personify360, online community software such as Higher Logic, marketing and mass communication tools such as Real Magnet
Excellent interpersonal skills including strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational and administrative skills
Excellent time management, including the ability to prioritize among multiple projects
Self-motivation and exceptional attention to detail and deadlines
