Reporting to the Vice President, Membership Marketing and Communications, the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for leading an integrated team of multi-channel marketing and communications professionals.
This leadership role at CASE requires a strategic and innovative thinker, who also has the experience to help guide the department based on systems of marketing and communications processes to maximize results and enhance member-value. CASE is in the process of instituting an internal partnership model, where marketing and communications will work to support all of CASE through a strategy-based and systems-led approach. The Senior Director of Marketing and Communications will play a critical part in finalizing and implementing this “partnership model” and lead an internal communications effort to educate CASE teams, in the spirit of collaboration, on how the system will operate in a joint quest to meet organizational goals and advance the mission of CASE.
Key areas of responsibility to include:
Work closely with the Vice President of Membership, Marketing, Communications to align department activities, goals, processes to support the strategic plan for CASE.
Establish and manage a set of KPI’s and benchmarks of reporting to gauge progress across all areas of CASE to ensure effort, resource allocation, and results are working to support big-picture goals of the organization.
Lead the integrated marketing and communications teams to strategically develop new methods to enhance the member experience. This leader will work to stay ahead of (be visionary) and address the needs of members, staff and stakeholders and always position CASE as an essential relationship and resource for the member base.
Lead the strategy to raise the awareness of CASE and its services in chosen markets.
Oversee global brand strategy and management ensuring the CASE brand and messages are properly and consistently packaged and distributed across all offices around the globe.
Establish the use of technology to support the brand. This will include systems such as Brand Folder and HubSpot.
Work with teams to develop a messaging style guide and playbook to properly package the brand for communications across all areas of CASE – from membership to events to publications, to media and press. The Senior Director of Marketing and Communications will serve as the key steward of the CASE brand. As part of this responsibility, this leader will oversee the publishing of the CASE monthly magazine, Currents, and the annual process for CASE Circle of Excellence Awards.
Through a partnership model, support all of CASE with marketing and communications needs, the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications will be the key relationship-building ambassador for the department, and work with teams to ensure work styles and systems are built and consistently maintained to foster a collaborative and team-driven approach between marketing and communications team members and internal partners who rely on the department to support CASE marketing and communications needs.
The ideal candidate for this position will possess a proven track record for leadership. From teams to individuals, this role requires a leader who can lead from a big-picture departmental level, down to supporting staff during day-to-day challenges that require support from leadership.
The Senior Director of Marketing and Communications will be a leader who leads by example, empowers their team to succeed, and maintains a fair and equitable level of accountability across the entire department.
Fiscal Management/Budget Responsibilities/Judicious Use of Resources
Exercises fiscal responsibility in the utilization of all CASE resources.
Manages a significant budget, preparing forecasts and plans in line with CASE processes.
Works cooperatively, constructively, and diplomatically with all divisions and regions.
Liaises with CASE colleagues in other parts of the world to ensure the best sharing of ideas, expertise, and knowledge.
Incorporates tasks and/or projects related to objectives as directed by the CASE Strategic Plan and goals set.
Matrix manager for all marcomms staff in Latin America, Asia-Pacific and Europe.
Manage external marketing and communications support, as necessary.
In keeping with the CASE Values Statement, ensuring that CASE is well represented by exercising a high degree of professionalism, accuracy, and ethics, in all activities, services, and products.
Represent CASE at key events and conferences.
General Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for managing personal data and ensuring that no breaches of the Policy or Procedures.
Responsible for understanding and complying with the data policy.
Ensuring data procedures – including the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP), and Guidelines are followed.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor.
JOB COMPLEXITY AND KNOWLEDGE
This is a role that needs to be effective on a strategic and delivery level. It requires an understanding of CASE’s revenue streams and goals and the impact that an integrated marcomms team can play in the organization’s success.
The successful candidate will demonstrate effective influence and leadership across the organization bringing teams and peers with them.
It is essential that the candidates brings with them experience of leading an integrated marcomms team.

High level judgement and problem-solving skills are required, as the incumbent is frequently faced with situations which require immediate action in response to issues and requests. The breadth and depth of understanding of an issue and the key internal/external persons handling the issue, and the way in which the issue is handled, all affect the outcome of the situation.
Professional and Organizational Knowledge
The position requires that the incumbent quickly develop a deep understanding of CASE, its policies and procedures and an understanding of the culture and regional and divisional interdependencies.
The position requires a deep understanding and respect for the organization’s systems and workflow.
The person will have significant professional marketing and communications experience.
Education and Experience:
BA in marketing and communications, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
10+ years professional experience.
Firsthand understanding of membership and non-profit organizations, value propositions, and member-driven work environments. Membership marketing knowledge and experience is essential for this role.
Experience working with and/or leading at a marketing, advertising, digital, client/service-based agency/company (or consultancy).
Experience with budgeting process and management of resources.
Experience leading marketing teams, covering a wide scope of talent sets and responsibility areas. Web and digital, print, press/media, social, data and analytics, publishing, editing and content development, automated and data-driven marketing.
Skills and Abilities:
A demonstrated interest in advancing education in the not-for-profit sector.
A strong commitment to contributing to an organizational culture that celebrates diversity and inclusion.
An understanding and interest in engaging with a broad range of cultures and countries.
Exceptional communications skills required, from writing and editing to speaking/presenting, to team-based problem solving and collaborating are needed for this position. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for this role.
Exceptional project management skills required. Develop and/or refine PM systems to support internal agency model, as mentioned above.
Understanding and practical experience with data and analytics reporting, benchmarking, and data-driven marketing analysis to drive marketing action is needed for this role.
CASE Vaccination Policy: Vaccination against COVID-19 is an important tool in helping to prevent infection and reduce hospitalization and mortality. CASE vaccination policy is as follows for each region:
US/CAN and Latin America offices: To access a CASE office, you must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or have an approved exception to this requirement as an employee with an approved medical or religious exemption (U.S.) or be subject to testing or other national/local restrictions in effect where the CASE office is located.
Europe and Asia Pacific Offices: CASE strongly encourages staff to obtain the most current COVID-19 vaccine and booster as soon as it is available to them unless they are ineligible to receive the vaccine due to medical reasons.
Alternative Work Arrangement: As of January 1, 2022, CASE implemented an Alternative Work Arrangement policy where, after 4 weeks of employment, eligible staff are given the opportunity to work from home up to 2 days per week and in office 3 days per week.
