The Executive Director, AdvaMed Imaging is responsible for the strategic vision and leadership of policies impacting the FDA-regulated imaging industry. Imaging represents an industry sector within AdvaMed, the global trade association for the medical technology industry.
The Executive Director will work closely with the Senior Staff Team (SST), member companies, and the AdvaMed organization to develop and implement strategies to advance member’s imaging public policy interests. The Executive Director is the lead representative of imaging within AdvaMed and in all public facing activities.
The Executive Director will have a proven record of accomplishment in leading strategic, comprehensive, and proactive public policy initiatives. Successful advocacy experience at the federal and state legislative level and federal health agency level is critical. Experience in building effective alliances with third parties will be essential to success. Expertise of the Food and Drug Administration’s and Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ legislative authorities, regulations, and regulatory processes is required.
The successful candidate will demonstrate substantial knowledge and experience in the imaging industry or related field and possess well-developed political and policy making savvy, diplomacy, and consensus-building skills
Essential Duties of Position
The core functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Strategic Plan Development - Works with SST, senior member company staff, and AdvaMed senior staff to lead the development and periodic updating of a comprehensive strategic public policy plan focused on imaging issues (five-year intervals)
Strategic Plan Execution - Leads the implementation of the strategic plan and manages the work of key imaging committees in collaboration with member companies and AdvaMed staff
Division Board - Manages and maintains the division’s board and associated nominating and governance processes; monitors culture of the imaging department to accomplish key goals and objectives outlined in the strategic plan
Grows Imaging Membership Responsible for growing imaging’s stature within AdvaMed and before policy makers; also works with membership to identify and recruit new imaging members
Policy - Leads a public policy process to develop proposals consistent with AdvaMed’s positions and the imaging strategic plan to shape and respond to the health policy environment, leverages perspectives of the imaging community in public policy process
Alliances - Establishes partnerships with appropriate allied organizations to coordinate and align the strategic plan and related policy work of the imaging industry; serves as imaging’s representative at the global organization and trade association level
Partnerships - Proactively collaborates with association and nonprofit executives, leaders of assigned groups, and other thought leaders to build coalitions on key issues
Internal Policy Collaborations - Collaborates across all AdvaMed Policy departments to interact with relevant US and Global governmental agencies and authorities on all appropriate regulatory and legislative initiatives relating to imaging companies
Small Company Advocate Serves as an advocate for emerging and early-growth imaging companies and works closely with AdvaMed Accel on related priorities
Public Relations - Collaborates with Public Affairs to oversee the public affairs aspect of imaging with emphasis on building alliances with third party stakeholders, including assigned groups, the investment community, technology sector, research advocacy organizations, and other health care sectors
Member Services - Establishes member services as prioritized by the AdvaMed Imaging Board, including for example, establishing a credentialled standards setting capacity within AdvaMed
Industry Spokesperson - Serves as an AdvaMed spokesperson on imaging issues and trends
Marquee Imaging Events Substantially contributes to the launch and growth of marquee imaging events convening AdvaMed members, public officials, and stakeholder across the imaging field
Industry Expertise - Keeps abreast of industry trends broadly, including business developments and/or challenges facing the industry, especially as it pertains to imaging companies
Supervisor - Supervises imaging staff and manages external contractors; directs and manages all aspects of AdvaMed Imaging’s budget
Hybrid Work Policy: Minimum 1 day onsite per week
Travel Requirements: Up to 25%, Domestic & International

Successful advocacy experience at the Congressional and Administration level is critical. Experience in building effective alliances with third parties and subject matter expert colleagues will be essential to success
Significant knowledge of the Food and Drug Administration’s legislative authority, regulations, and regulatory processes for medical devices and diagnostics
Significant knowledge of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ legislative authority and regulatory processes for Medicare coding, coverage, payment, and quality issues
Understanding of private and public financial markets and role of investors with regards to medical technology manufacturers
Strong leadership presence: ability to lead and support a diverse and senior board of executives
