The Membership Manager will develop and implement strategies to grow, expand, and retain AAOP members. This role will serve as a membership subject matter expert, aligning AAOP programs, products, and services with appropriate member types to articulate relevant membership value propositions. The Manager will work collaboratively with the Chief Communications and Strategy Officer to develop and implement member retention and recruitment marketing campaigns. The Membership Manager will provide oversight and management of the entire membership cycle, including prospect identification and outreach development of strategies to optimize recruitment, retention, and marketing of the AAOP’s efforts among members and prospective members. This position has the primary responsibility to identify and analyze membership trends, oversee the effective use of the AMS/database to manage member data and processes and convey the value of AAOP membership throughout the profession and connected health organizations. This is a remote position.
RESPONSIBILITIES
GENERAL
Develop a comprehensive understanding of AAOP’s mission, products, services, and audience. Work with staff to create and continually refine a value message for membership
Attend Membership Advocacy Council meetings
Promote and enforce the highest member service standards possible in responding to inquiries, requests, and comments from members and prospective members
Assess and maintain data integrity to ensure accurate reporting of members and prospects. Ensure a deep understanding of all facets of the AAOP’s AMS.
Oversee the email marketing platform to create targeted messages for member recruitment and retention. Track metrics (open rate, click-throughs, etc.).
Prepare reports and presentations for board meetings, highlighting activities, trends, and membership metrics regarding new members, retention rate, and membership within the 10 AAOP Scientific Societies and three Fellow program categories.
Recommend new programs, services, and benefits to meet member needs
Create, monitor, and manage the membership department budget, making recommendations for strategic use of funds and opportunities for growth and adjustment
MEMBERSHIP RECRUITMENT
Develop and annually assess a comprehensive membership recruitment plan that includes all membership categories, scientific societies, and fellow programs. The plan should be rooted in market research and best practices.
Work with the Executive Director to develop and execute membership strategic and operating plans for AAOP, ensuring that goals are met in the following areas: membership recruitment in each category, Scientific Society recruitment for each society, and Fellow program recruitment across all three programs.
Generate new leads through independent research and other sources.
Develop policies and standard operating procedures to streamline recruitment outreach to all AAOP membership categories, Scientific Societies, and Fellow programs.
Other duties as assigned
MEMBERSHIP RETENTION
Develop and annually assess a comprehensive membership retention plan across all membership categories, Scientific Societies, and Fellow programs. Plans should be rooted in market research and best practices.
Work with the Executive Director to develop and execute membership strategic and operating plans for AAOP, ensuring that goals are met in the following areas: membership retention in each category, Scientific Society retention for each society, and Fellow program recruitment across all three programs.
Develop policies and standard operating procedures to streamline renewal processing across all AAOP membership categories, Scientific Societies, and Fellow programs.
Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
Prior association membership experience required; 2-3 years professional society experience preferred
Significant experience with Association Management Systems (AMS) and member database management (Novi AMS experience a plus)
Outstanding writing, editing and layout skills
Experience using Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Well-versed in creating charts, graphs, and reports
Must be a self-starter as well as an independent and creative thinker with a focus on details and the ability to initiate, manage, and complete multiple projects independently.
Must be able to travel to the Academy’s Annual Meeting and Scientific Symposium
